Before You Believe Someone About Your Energy... Ask Yourself These Three Questions
Before You Believe Someone About Your Energy... Ask Yourself These Three Questions

Imagine opening your inbox one morning to find a message that says:
"I've checked your energy and you've got a curse."
Or perhaps:
"Someone has placed negative energy around you."
"Your bad luck is being caused by black magic."
"I can remove it for you today."
For many people, those messages are immediately recognisable as scams.
But what if the message comes from someone you've worked with before?
Someone who has previously read your cards.
Performed a ritual.
Or offered you a healing.
Suddenly it becomes much harder to know what to believe.
Over the past several months, I've had many clients forward these kinds of messages to me, asking the same question.
"Kristy... is this real?"
Before you do anything else...
I want to invite you to pause.
Take a breath.
And ask yourself three simple questions.
Because your greatest protection isn't fear.
It's discernment.
Quick Answer: If someone tells you there's something wrong with your energy, pause before reacting. Ask yourself whether you gave consent, whether the message genuinely resonates with your own intuition, and whether you're responding from clarity or fear. Spiritual discernment helps you make empowered decisions rather than giving your power away.
Over the years, I've had many clients forward messages like these to me, wondering whether they should be worried. Almost every time, the most important first step wasn't finding an answer, it was helping them pause before making a decision.
Why Fear Makes Everything Feel True

When we're frightened, our ability to think clearly changes.
Our nervous system shifts into protection mode.
Instead of asking thoughtful questions, we instinctively search for immediate safety.
That's completely human.
If someone tells you there's something wrong with your energy, especially during a season when life already feels difficult, it's understandable that fear begins whispering,
"What if they're right?"
But fear isn't always evidence.
Sometimes it's simply an emotional response to uncertainty.
That's why the very first thing I encourage people to do is slow down before making any decisions.
Question One: Did I Give Consent?
This is the first question I ask every client who receives one of these messages.
Did you ask this person to check your energy?
Consent matters.
Whether someone is offering Reiki, energy healing, ritual work or intuitive guidance, you deserve to know when someone is intentionally reading your energy.
If you didn't request an energy check...
Pause.
Ask yourself why someone is contacting you in the first place.
Healthy spiritual work is built on trust, respect and consent.
Not surprise messages designed to create urgency.
Question Two: Does This Actually Feel True?
Before asking anyone else...
Ask yourself.
Sit quietly.
Take a few slow breaths.
Ground your energy.
Notice what your own body is telling you.
Does something genuinely feel out of balance?
Or are you only feeling frightened because of the message you've just received?
These are two very different experiences.
One of the most important spiritual skills you can develop is learning to recognise the difference between your own intuition...
And someone else's fear.
You cannot truly discern while sitting in panic.
That's why creating calm first is so important.
Question Three: If I Want Another Opinion, Who Do I Trust?
Sometimes you may genuinely feel something isn't right.
That's okay.
Seeking support isn't a weakness.
But choose someone you trust.
Someone whose values you know.
Someone who respects your boundaries.
Someone who gives you honest answers rather than frightening ones.
A trustworthy practitioner won't pressure you into making immediate decisions.
They'll help you understand what they're sensing.
They'll answer your questions.
And they'll support you in making informed choices.
Real guidance empowers.
It doesn't manipulate.
Discernment Is a Spiritual Practice
One of the biggest messages I wanted to share in this podcast wasn't actually about scams.
It was about discernment.
Discernment is one of the most important spiritual practices you'll ever develop.
Not because the world is full of things to fear.
But because the world is full of information.
Messages.
Predictions.
Opinions.
Videos.
Energy updates.
Readings.
Algorithms.
Every day we're asked to decide what resonates and what doesn't.
That quiet inner knowing becomes one of your greatest spiritual gifts.
Not Every Message Is Meant for You

Social media has made spiritual content more accessible than ever before.
That can be a wonderful thing.
It can also become overwhelming.
One video says you're entering abundance.
The next says you're under spiritual attack.
Another says someone is secretly manifesting you.
Another predicts major life changes before the end of the week.
It becomes noisy.
The more noise we consume, the more important discernment becomes.
Not every reading is yours.
Not every message is speaking to your life.
Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do is simply keep scrolling.
Ground Yourself Before You React
Whenever you receive a message that creates fear, try this first.
Pause.
Take a breath.
Ground your energy.
Spend a few quiet moments reconnecting with yourself before responding.
You might meditate.
Pull an Oracle card.
Journal.
Sit outside with your cup of tea.
Ask yourself,
"What am I actually feeling right now?"
Notice the difference between your own knowing and someone else's words.
That small pause often changes everything.
Your Intuition Deserves a Voice Too

One of the greatest goals of any spiritual teacher should be helping you trust yourself more.
Not becoming dependent on someone else's guidance.
Your intuition matters.
Your inner knowing matters.
Your relationship with Spirit matters.
The more you practise listening to your own wisdom, the easier it becomes to recognise what genuinely feels aligned.
That doesn't mean you'll never seek support.
It simply means you'll seek it from a place of clarity instead of fear.
The Lesson Might Be Bigger Than the Email
Perhaps the most interesting question isn't whether the message was true.
Perhaps it's this:
"What is this experience trying to teach me?"
Maybe it's teaching stronger boundaries.
Maybe it's teaching discernment.
Maybe it's inviting you to deepen your own spiritual practice so that you feel more confident checking in with yourself before handing your power to someone else.
Whatever the lesson may be...
Remember this.
No email.
No social media message.
No unexpected inbox notification gets to decide the truth of your energy.
That conversation begins with you.
And the more you strengthen your own spiritual connection, the easier it becomes to recognise what genuinely belongs to you...
And what doesn't.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if an energy reading is genuine?
A trustworthy practitioner will respect your consent, explain what they're sensing and support you without creating unnecessary fear or pressure. If a message immediately encourages panic or expensive urgent action, take time to pause, ground yourself and check in with your own intuition first.
Should someone read my energy without asking me?
Consent is an important part of ethical spiritual practice. If someone claims to have checked your energy without your knowledge, it's reasonable to pause and carefully discern whether that interaction aligns with your values and feels trustworthy.
What should I do if someone tells me I have negative energy or a curse?
Before reacting, take time to ground yourself and honestly ask whether the message feels true to your own experience. If you're still concerned, seek a second opinion from a practitioner you know and trust rather than making decisions from a place of fear.
Why is discernment so important in spirituality?
Discernment helps you separate fear from intuition. As you strengthen your own spiritual practice, you become more confident recognising what genuinely resonates with your own inner knowing rather than feeling influenced by every message you encounter online.
