Why Integration Is the Most Overlooked Part of Healing
Why Integration Is the Most Overlooked Part of Healing
By Kristy | Priestess of the Mystics
You finally booked the healing session.
Or perhaps you attended a retreat, completed a powerful ritual or experienced a beautiful meditation that left you feeling lighter, calmer and more connected to yourself.
You walked away thinking,
"Something has shifted."
And it probably had.
But here's what many people don't realise.
The healing session isn't where the deepest transformation happens.
The transformation begins afterwards.
It begins during the quiet moments when your body starts integrating everything it has just received.
And in my experience, this is one of the most overlooked parts of the healing journey.
Healing Begins the Process
Whether you've experienced Reiki, Seichim, multidimensional energy healing, a spiritual retreat or a deeply personal ritual, these experiences often create profound energetic shifts.
Old emotional patterns begin softening.
Your nervous system relaxes.
Your energetic field starts reorganising itself.
Sometimes you feel immediate peace.
Sometimes you feel emotional.
Sometimes you simply feel different without quite knowing why.
Whatever your experience, something has begun moving.
But beginning isn't the same as completing.
Healing opens the door.
Integration is what allows you to walk through it.
What Is Integration?
Think of integration as the bridge between the energetic experience and your everyday life.
It's the process of allowing everything you've received to gently settle into your body, your thoughts and your actions.
Without integration, healing can remain something you experienced.
With integration, healing becomes part of who you are.
This is where lasting transformation begins.
The Lesson I Learnt the Hard Way
A while ago, what feels like forever ago really, I travelled overseas for a beautiful Priestess pilgrimage.
For many many months beforehand, a group of us had been studying, preparing and working together within a sacred container.
The pilgrimage itself was extraordinary.
We worked with ancient sites.
Connected deeply with one another.
Held powerful ceremonies.
Completed energetic grid work.
Every day felt expansive and transformational.
In my mind, I had imagined it would feel like a retreat.
Time to rest.
Time to journal.
Time to quietly absorb everything I was experiencing.
Instead...
It was a true pilgrimage.
We travelled.
We moved constantly.
We worked deeply every single day.
The experience was incredible.
But what happened afterwards taught me an even bigger lesson.
I arrived home, hugged my son, changed suitcases and headed straight onto a cruise.
There was no pause.
No space.
No quiet.
No opportunity to integrate what my body, mind and spirit had just experienced.
Surrounded by crowds, constant activity and the busyness of travel, I unknowingly skipped one of the most important parts of the entire journey.
Eventually, my body created that space for me.
I became unwell and was forced to slow down.
Looking back, I realised something profound.
Healing had happened.
But integration hadn't.
Why Slowing Down Matters
We often think transformation happens during the healing session itself.
Yet much of the real work unfolds quietly afterwards.
It's a little like planting a seed.
You don't dig it back up every day to check if it's growing.
You water it.
You care for it.
You allow time to do what only time can do.
Healing asks the same of us.
The energetic work has already begun.
Now your body needs space to respond.
Signs You Need More Integration

Sometimes your body tells you exactly what it needs.
You might notice:
-
feeling unusually tired after a healing session
-
wanting more quiet than usual
-
emotions surfacing unexpectedly
-
vivid dreams
-
moments of deep reflection
-
feeling called to spend time in nature
Rather than seeing these experiences as interruptions, consider them invitations.
Your body may simply be asking for space to integrate.
Integration Doesn't Mean Putting Life on Hold
One of the biggest myths about integration is that it requires disappearing from everyday life.
It doesn't.
You don't need to take a week off work after every healing session.
You don't need to avoid your responsibilities.
Integration is often found in the smallest moments.
A quiet walk after work.
Drinking your morning cup of tea without scrolling on your phone.
Standing barefoot on the grass.
Journalling for ten minutes before bed.
Taking three slow breaths before rushing into the next task.
These simple practices create moments where your nervous system can settle and your energy can gently anchor.

Four Gentle Ways to Support Integration
After any healing, ritual or spiritual experience, I encourage clients to create small pockets of space for themselves.
Some simple ways to support integration include:
1. Slow your pace.
You don't need to stop your life, but you can choose not to rush through it.
2. Ground your energy.
Spend time in nature, walk barefoot on the earth or simply sit quietly with your cup of tea and notice your surroundings.
3. Reflect on your experience.
Write in a journal, record a voice memo or simply ask yourself what you're noticing.
4. Stay hydrated and well rested.
Your body is processing far more than you may realise.
Supporting it physically also supports the energetic work taking place.
Transformation Needs Somewhere to Land
One sentence has stayed with me throughout my own healing journey.
Healing begins the process. Integration completes it.
The energy you've received needs somewhere to land.
It needs time to settle.
It needs moments of stillness where your body can recognise,
"This is safe."
Without those moments, we often keep rushing towards the next healing, the next course or the next experience without allowing the previous one to fully become part of us.
Give Yourself Permission to Receive
We live in a world that celebrates constant movement.
More productivity.
More achievement.
More doing.
Healing quietly asks something very different.
It asks us to receive.
To pause.
To notice.
To trust that not every part of transformation happens through effort.
Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do after a healing session isn't booking the next one.
It's making yourself a cup of tea.
Stepping outside.
Feeling the sun on your face.
Taking a deep breath.
And allowing everything you've already received to gently become part of who you are.
Because healing may begin the transformation...
But integration is where the magic unfolds.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is healing integration?
Healing integration is the process of allowing the energetic, emotional and spiritual shifts from a healing session or transformational experience to gently settle into your daily life. Rather than ending when the session finishes, healing often continues through the days and weeks that follow.
Why do I feel tired after a healing session?
Many people experience tiredness because the body is processing energetic and emotional changes. Rest, hydration and giving yourself quiet moments can help support this natural integration process.
How can I support integration after energy healing?
Simple practices such as spending time in nature, journalling, grounding, staying hydrated and slowing your pace for a short period can all help your body integrate the energetic work more deeply.
How long does healing integration take?
Every person is different. Some people notice integration over a few days, while others continue experiencing subtle shifts for several weeks. The key is allowing yourself space to notice and support the process rather than rushing into the next thing.
